What furnace and air conditioner maintenance can I do myself?
There are a few simple routines that you can follow to help ensure that your system runs smoothly.
- Check the air filter of your furnace / air handler every 3 –4 weeks. A dirty filter strains your system blower leading to freezing of indoor A-coil and overheating of the furnace.
- If your furnace is located near or in your Laundry room check the clothes dryer venting for damage or leaks as Lint is a Notorious particulate Problem for Blower motors and coils.
- Keep your outdoor unit free of debris, leaves, etc. Be particularly aware of dust and Pollen build-up on the outdoor Coil. Especially during our Cottonwood Season June - July. Rinse coil with garden hose at an Oblique Angle. Rinse down and away from Coil surface. Taking Care Not to drive debris deeper into Coil Fins.
- Ensure that your outdoor unit is on level ground. Also that Outdoor Weather-Tite Electric Wire Whip and Disconnect Box is not Cracked or showing signs of damage or wear. Should you observe any damage or disrepair Please Do Not Attempt Repairs Yourself. For Peace of Mind, and Safety sake, Call a Licensed and qualified HVAC Professional Immediately.
